Outfit log: Midwest trip, LA outfit

Howdy beautiful people! Don't worry... outfit photos are below, but before we get to that...

I just got back from a trip to the Du Quoin, Illinois visiting my mom, her hubs, and his family. My step sister helps to coordinate the State Fair down there so we got the VIP treatment! Which meant I got to meet Dwight Yoakam... who I've been a fan of for years and years (he does a bomb ass cover of Elvis' "Suspicious Minds").

We also visited some dude's farm for some reason (work related for my mom and her hubby), and mom and I sat in a giant tractor wheel.

I also fiercely enjoyed some grilled corn AND rode this crazy ride with my mom's boss. Not only do you get flipped all the way around sitting on the end of those long arms, but the seats spin around WHILE you're flipping. David was giggling the whole time, while I was giggling and cursing. Such fun.

Anyway, it was a grand ole time, but having to go back to work Tuesday after flying home late Monday night was brutal! But after 5pm today starts a much needed three day weekend... so there's that!

On a completely different note, here's an ensemble I sported during my two week stint in LA. I love this dress so much. Chose to keep things simple and monochromatic with the beige-y sandals and belt.

Anyhoozle...  this outfit matches the SF weather this week. Gray and more gray, y'all. Uber depressing after two weeks of sunshine in SoCal. But whatev... bright red lips help (at least they did last month when I donned this getup)! As does living in sunshiney Oaktown. Even though my car got towed yesterday. Silly me parked in front of a commercial driveway totally by accident... an expensive ass mistake, dagnabit. But I'm determined not to let that or the weather get me down! Onward and upward.

Outfit log: Back in Black (and Beige)

I'm baaaaaaaack! Well, I mean, back home in Oakland after two weeks in LA-la-land. And also, back to posting outfits with some sort of regularity. Here's one from last month, which I also happened to wear last Friday, my first day back at work post-LA adventure.

This skirt is a new favorite. Not only is the pattern pizzazzy, but it's wrinkle-proof, has the cute little gathered detail on my left hip (your right), and does not require a belt. Bada bing, bada boom! Perfect for anyday, but particularly a first day back at work after being gone for awhile.

My "professional development" thingamajig was actually a two week course at UCLA in Women's Health & Empowerment through the School of Public Health. And holy moley was it fantastic! I learned so much in those crunched two weeks, earned 4 graduate school credits, and totally am inspired to apply to grad school now. Woohoo!

Also, LA was gorgeous. I was super busy with school, reading, and assignments, but couldn't help but enjoy the sunshine and blue skies everyday. I stayed with my friend Gaby who lives in Venice, so was able to walk and run to the beach a few times even :) I sure do love the Bay Area, but goshdarnit if LA weather ain't the best in the world. Might have to apply to schools down there in addition to the Bay Area and see what happens...

Hey peeps! I'm out of town doing a crazy school thing that I swung as professional development for work (OMG so interesting/challenging/my brain might explode) for the next couple of weeks, hence the lackadaisical posting. In case you noticed :)

Printed skirts are my JAM. I need more in my life, so always check out the skirt racks first at the thrift store, and was rewarded recently with this Tarjay find. Love the colors, especially seeing as I could get all matched up with my other clothing choices.

Also, can I just take a moment to appreciate jersey button up tops? No boob-area-gaping, and not constricting in the shoulders. Bam!
